Initial Steps to building a Carport

When embarking on building a carport it is important to first plan thoroughly the build. This is vital as a poorly planned project can lead to it going seriously over budget and you may find yourself with a building which doesn't provide the features you need. There are a number of factors to consider in the initial phases. In this post we will consider planning.

When deciding on a carport you will need to have one designed and plans drawn up. This can be performed by a builder or architect for which you will have to pay fees. Another alternative is to buy plans from a home improvement store or buy online. Online is one of my favorite ways of getting plans as there are so many available and you can browse them online to get the style you want. Another cost effective method is to build from a prefabricated carport kit. These are often built out of steel and are relatively easy and quick to build.

It is vital that you consult local planning and building regulations before purchasing your plans. Many government authorities have restirctions on size and appearance and as to whether a carport is allowed at all. Some places, such as heritage communities, have very strict limitations on what can be built. The cost and time of getting approval needs to be taken into account in the overall project.
